Ray Bradbury, Author of Farenheit 451

Beloved author Ray Bradbury, died last week at the age of 91. This video is about his love of libraries and books, but he also mentions that as a boy his family was “very poor” and received help with food or “government relief”. Can you imagine if his family were not able to get help? Would he have been nourished enough to seek out learning and books from the local public library? What if he were too hungry to concentrate on reading and writing as a boy and as a teen? Would he have grown up to be one of the great American writers? Would he still have won a Pulitzer Prize, National Medal of Arts, National Book Foundation Medal and so many other honors? It’s important to remember that many of the children at risk of hunger are talented – let’s not let hunger stand between them and their dreams.
