Recap & resources: Hungry for Change Summit 2017

On behalf of our team at Hunger Free Colorado,  thank you to all who joined us (in-person and virtually) for the seventh annual Hungry for Change Summit last Wednesday! It was a great day of learning, networking, and sharing ideas and solutions that can move us toward a hunger-free Colorado.

Equity, community engagement, and collaboration are key in creating the systems, policy, and social changes needed at the federal, state and local levels, which is why they were common themes throughout the day. We all must work together if our shared vision and goal is to ensure every Coloradan has access to healthy, affordable food, regardless of their race, ethnicity, immigration status, national origin, sexual orientation, age, background, or zip code.

As Dr. Maya Rockeymoore, President and CEO of the Center for Global Policy Solutions, inquired at the beginning of her powerful keynote address on the intersection of race and hunger: “What do you do when the system you live in is not designed for YOU?” She also reminded us that “we are all in this together” and “we need to deliberately reject the stereotypes” that we hear every day.

This year’s conference would not have been possible without the attendees, speakers, volunteers, and staff, as well as the generous support of sponsors. Thank you, again, for everyone’s involvement!

We hope eveyone left the Summit inspired. Are you and your team already applying some of the insights, recommendations, and actionable items into your daily work? If so, we would love to hear about it!
